Citrine is a yellow to light brown shade of quartz with a Mohs hardness of seven. Like the great imposter Spinel (see our last blog post if you missed out!), prior to modern gemology, Citrine was often confused for another gemstone - topaz. With modern distinctions, Citrine has become very popular for its beautiful shades, affordability, and durability. If you’re seeking out these warm gemstones, look no further than the Afterglow threadless end, the Citrine prong threadless end, and the Rise + Shine ombre clicker available through our website.
Citrine is one of the November birthstones (along with topaz), as well as the gem of the thirteenth anniversary. Citrine is often associated with prosperity and success, a happy disposition, and new energy, which has led to it being referred to as the sunshine stone.
Citrine in History
Throughout the ages, Citrine has been used to adorn many powerful instruments, including Scottish dagger and sword handles, ceremonial attire, and of course, jewelry. It was known for being a ward for negativity and evil thoughts, and referred to as the “money stone” as it was believed to bring prosperity to its holders.
In ancient Rome, artists would carve intricate works into Citrine stones, as pictured here. This stone is dated back to the first century A.D., and depicts “Bonus Eventus,” a divine personification of success and good fortune. Measuring 7/16” × ⅜” × ⅛” in, this stone is smaller than an American quarter.

]]>Spinel is known as a protective and restorative stone. With an abundant range of colors, each with their own unique properties, this gemstone has something for everyone. Spinel has also recently been recognized as one of the three birthstones of the month of August.
Spinel has quite an impressive history, adorning monarch’s crowns and emperor’s necklaces. But there was just one catch - everyone believed they were rubies! Spinel has been coined the “the great imposter” of gemstones for centuries due to it’s deep colors and identical resemblance to rubies, emeralds and sapphires. It wasn’t until 1783, when a French mineralogist named Jean-Baptiste Louis Romé de l’Isle proved through a new test that red spinel was in fact chemically different from rubies. In 1812, Friedrich Mohs invented his scale that defined the relative hardness of gemstones. This further proved the differences between the stones, with rubies measuring a hardness of 9, and spinel measuring in at 7.5-8. Mohs scale is still used to this day as the standard for measuring gemstone hardness. For a time, this led to a decline in the perceived value of the stone. However, in more recent history, Spinel has recaptured the hearts of jewelry connoisseurs and appears in fine jewelry from designers all over the world.
Possibly the most famous spinel, the “Black Prince’s Ruby,” was a gift from Pedro the Cruel to Edward the Black Prince in 1367 as a payment for battle. This prized gemstone was nearly lost in 1415, while adorning the helmet of Henry V at the Battle of Agincourt. Henry’s forces prevailed, and the Black Prince’s Ruby went on to be cherished by monarchs for generations. Nearly 700 years later, it now resides in the Tower of London, set in the Imperial State Crown of the British crown jewels.
Original Photo
Our Moet threadless end is always a celebrated classic - but did you know that it also comes in a variety of stones? Flaunting three low profile marquise cut black spinel stones, this shadowy beauty can stand out alone or compliment many other designs. All of our threadless ends are available in solid 14kt yellow, white, and rose gold.
Both charming and elegant, the Grace threadless end encompasses one 2mm round cut Green Spinel stone in the center of a glittering array of twelve 0.7mm CZ’s. We’ll let the photo do all the talking here.
If you’re searching for clickers, the Mikah in black spinel is definitely worth noting! Available in 5/16” diameter, this sleek, side set clicker has one 1.3mm-2mm x 5mm black spinel center stone, and sixteen 1mm CZ's. It’s perfect for adorning a high lobe, helix, and more. Clickers are easy to install and remove, making them a great option for those who like to switch things up or remove their jewelry more often.
And last but certainly not least, the black spinel Staxx is finally here! With three 1mm x 2mm black spinel baguettes, this versatile threadless end can be styled beautifully in lobe, helix, tragus, conch, lip, and nose piercings.

]]>Known as the stones of serenity and wisdom, natural sapphires have captivated the jewelry world for centuries. Sapphires are a variety of the corundum mineral, and boast a wide array of colors (save for red, which are rubies!). Sapphires that are not blue in color are known as “fancy sapphires.” These tough beauties have a Mohs hardness ranking of 9, only lesser in strength to diamonds.
Sapphires in History
According to historic tales, Helen of Troy possessed a large star sapphire that held the key to her allure. The abduction of Helen led to the Trojan War, where King Menelaus “launched a thousand ships” to rescue his beautiful queen.
The Royal British Family has also favored sapphires throughout history. From the Imperial State Crown, which includes the Stuart Sapphire and was worn by Queen Elizabeth II, to Princess Diana’s personally selected engagement ring, later given to Kate Middleton by Prince William, blue sapphires have been a well-established gemstone of this royal heritage.
Sapphires in Buddha Jewelry
Sapphires from Buddha Jewelry are ethically sourced and hand-selected, allowing us to procure premier cuts and colors for our clients. From our current jewelry designs, you can find pink, white, and blue sapphires in a variety of cuts and sizes.
Our Trans Awareness threadless end includes one pear-cut pink sapphire, alongside one white topaz and one London blue topaz gemstone. We also carry round-cut pink sapphire prongs available in 1.5mm, 2mm, and 2.5mm for the perfect pink accent piece. All of our threadless ends are available in solid 14kt yellow, white, and rose gold.
For necklaces, look no further than the Rion x Buddha Jewelry Poppi Necklace, which features one 1mm ruby, one 1.5mm pink sapphire, and one 1mm white sapphire set in solid 14kt yellow gold. This trio of gemstones is a perfect harmony of the corundum family.
White sapphires twinkle in many of our most-loved designs. You can find white sapphire in the round dangle of the Bianca threadless end, the thirteen round sapphires that border the cabochon stone of the Delphine threadless end, and all of our Rion x Buddha Jewelry collaborative necklaces and finger rings.
And finally, for classic blue sapphires, check out our Rion x Buddha Jewelry Insight Necklace. This sleek design includes five 1.5mm blue sapphires set in solid 14kt yellow gold.

]]>What is a Chain?
In the realm of piercing jewelry, a chain is a jewelry adornment that contains two jump rings on either end. The jump rings are then threaded through the post/threadless end to hold the chain in place. Chains can be used to link two piercings together or upgrade a single piercing by draping the chain from the front of the ear (connects to threadless end) to the back (connects to post).
Which Chain is Right for Me?
We have several exquisite chain options at Buddha Jewelry. No matter what style you are trying to achieve, we’ve got you covered! If you’re looking for a more punk rock aesthetic, go for a thicker style chain that will stand out on the ear like our Faceted Chain. If you’re looking for something more delicate and dainty for everyday wear, opt for a lighter piece like our Tile Chain. We also feature a Double Tile Chain for double the gold and double the shine! Mix and match different styles of chains to create varying textures and lengths for a totally unique look!
What Size Chain Do I Need?
First thing’s first, determine which piercings you already have and if you need to add any new piercings to achieve your desired look. Then decide what piercings you want to add a chain to. Next, grab some string and use it to measure from one piercing to the other or from the front to the back of one piercing depending on which style you choose. Once the string is laying how you want it to look, measure the string with a ruler or measuring app. That measurement will be the approximate length you want to get. If you land in between sizes, we suggest sizing up.
Style Tips
Now that you have a better understanding of what the chain options are, let’s look at how we can style them! Picking where you want your chains to go depends on what piercings you have and how much negative (empty) space there is.
In the rose gold curation above, we connected the flat (Round Bezel Reverse Set in Amethyst) to the double helix (Zuri in Opal) using the tile chain (Tile Chain 28mm). This adds dimension and fills up the unused area on the ear. We also added a tile chain (Tile Chain 18mm) on the second lobe (Opal Prong Cabochon 3mm) and a double tile chain (Double Tile Chain 18mm x 28mm) on the double helix (Opal Prong Cabochon 2mm) to drape around the ear. This extends the adornment and allows you to wrap your ear in gold!
In this white gold curation, we styled it with beaded-style chains. We connected the first lobe (Covet) to the third lobe (Oh Hell Yes!) with our three bead chain (Cressida 3 Bead Chain) and connected two flat piercings (Swarovski Crystal Prong 2mm) together with our five bead chain (5 Bead Chain). The draping of the chains creates movement and establishes a path for the eye to follow as you take in this gorgeous white gold moss agate look!
In this yellow gold curation, we styled it using our newest faceted chain! Using this chain (Faceted Chain 28mm), we connected the forward helix (Solid Gold Seam Ring 18G in 5/16”) and the helix (Afterglow in Smokey Quartz), creating an amazing drape across the top of the ear. This becomes an intricate focal point where there wasn’t any gold jewelry before! We also connected the chain to a threadless end and a seamless ring, allowing the chain to slide comfortably as it moves.
Whether you’re new to piercing jewelry or have many adornments, chains can be utilized to create more dramatic styles, add texture, length, movement, and fill in empty areas around the ear. Check out all of our stunning chain styles here and find your perfect adornment that represents your unique style!

HOW TO MEASURE A PIERCING RING
We suggest going to a professional piercer to have your piercing ring sized properly as there are many factors that go into measuring properly for the placement that will result in the best fit for your anatomy. To find the gauge size of your ring you will need to measure the thickness of the area that goes through your piercing. Next you will need to measure the diameter of the ring which is inside the very center of the ring. See below diagram
HOW TO FIND YOUR GAUGE SIZE
The gauge of your piercing is the thickness of the post/ring that goes through your piercing. The higher the number of the gauge the thinner and smaller your size is. For example, an 18 gauge post is thinner than an 8 gauge post. After 00g it changes from gauge to inches.
This conversion chart below will help you figure out millimeter to gauges/inches.
HOW TO MEASURE A PLUG
To measure your plugs you will need to use calipers or a ruler and measure the inner diameter of the plug aka the "wearspace" which is the innermost part of the plug that sits in your ear.
To measure teardrop shaped plugs you will need to measure the length of the plug by the width of the plug's wearspace and than divide that number in half to get the millimeter size.
TYPES OF PLUGS AND FLARES
Single Flared - The flare is on one side only and an o-ring will fit to the other size to hold it in place. Single flared plugs are the best for stretching
Double Flared - Flare on both sides of the plugs. Double flared plugs are great for people who are no longer stretching and have reached their goal size
Mayan Flared - The flare on the front is larger than the flare on the back. This style does not affect the size or how the jewelry fits in your ear. With a mayan flare the back flare will be a normal size, that way you are able to remove them easily from your ear. This style can be front heavy for some people, but extra support of an o-ring can help with that!
THREADLESS ENDS
All of our threadless ends have 25 gauge steel pins that are compatible with universal threadless posts of all gauges. The post is the backing for your jewelry that will hold it in place. The gauge and length size of your post will be different for everyone based on their anatomy. We always recommend visiting a piercing professional to have the correct post sized for your piercing. We do not sell posts only the ends, so if you already know your size you can purchase your universal threadless posts here from our friends at Deep Roots.
HOW TO FIND YOUR CHAIN MEASUREMENT
Use a string to measure from one piercing to the other from the front to back of the piercing. Once the string looks how you like, measure it! This will be the approximate length you will want to get to achieve the look. If you are in between sizes we suggest you size up!
If you have any questions regarding this information we are here to help! You can email us info@buddhajewelryorganics.com or live chat with one of our jewelry specialists! As we mentioned before, if this is your first time getting a piercing we suggest visiting your local piercing studio to have a professional help you with sizing and placement.

Q: Tell us about yourself!
A: I'm a proud immigrant body piercer from Mongolia. I've Been piercing for over 10 years and had my own little studio back home. I came to the States three years ago and I'm still in the works of writing my herstory. I will be turning 28 soon and I am a mother of two beautiful children.
Q: Tell us about your journey - How did you start piercing?
A: I started piercing myself when I was around 14. Masochism (act of implying pain to oneself ) was a coping mechanism I picked up while growing up. Eventually I started doing intentional piercings on myself since I was a huge metal music enthusiast and looking different from everyone was my main goal, you know, like every teenager! Soon my friends and siblings wanted piercings too, and that's basically how I got into body piercing.
Every time I finish this story, I make sure to relay that this is absolutely not an acceptable way to start piercing especially if you're in a country where you have all the needed resources and professionals to help you get started. Don't take these things for granted!
Q: Being a strong woman in your industry - What is your career like now?
A: I would say my career is still in the works of becoming a masterpiece! I've come a long way, a very long way to be where I am right now. Starting in a country with little to no resources and learning forums (where apprenticeships are STILL unheard of) being able to pierce in high end shops and becoming an APP Member is simply a dream come true. All I knew was that I wanted to become a member of the Association and use all the high quality jewelry we use now. Little did I know with determination and hard work that I would come across such a wonderful bonus of representing and modeling for this beautiful company, Buddha Jewelry Organics. I like to be a proud femme piercer, and I do take pride on being Asian, an immigrant and a mother! I like to believe that I can be inspirational throughout all these mediums and help someone find self-confidence and faith in themselves.
Q:How would you characterize your personal style?
A: I would say that I have 2 personalities/styles. My first and foremost personal style would be the "real me." Very heavy in black, chains, metal and leather accessories. The higher the boots and heels, the merrier!
The "professional" Anji on the other hand is well dressed up or "toned down" if you will, to be presentable for my clients. Never working without big statement ear weights or make up. When my clients get pierced by me, I want to give them a sense of ease and trust just based on my aesthetics and it works quite well - Just like I would trust a hairdresser that has a sense of style too!
Q: What are your go-to / favorite Buddha Jewelry designs
A: Right now my jewelry collection is predominantly yellow gold, metally themed. I am sure all the crystals are going to be my next generation of jewelry ;) But for now my go to designs for a fancy night out is 100% the Luminous weights simply pair them up with a black dress and you will see the earring pop with your pretty face!
I love Buddha Jewelry for their designs, yes, but once I got to know who owns and runs the business I loved the company more for the spirit, how they're so down-to-earth, inclusive and how they are genuinely family oriented, easy to relate to and inspirational people!
Style tips from Anji!
My favorite pairs for a dressed up day at work or dinner with bae would be the Deity hoops, Goddess earrings and Inamorite weights. With the timeless bold designs you can give any outfit a big dash of spice and a hint of attitude.
In my opinion, statement jewelry designs are best worn with hair up. That way you can really bring out the best in them and help them frame your face in full effect.
If I want to wear my hair down I would pair it up with the smaller designs like the Lotus weights, Hooked and the Deco weights.
Next in line waiting for me to grab them are the Glamazon, Osiris and Obscura earrings to finish up my "Metal collection"
